Mediterranean Design Meets Art Deco

Nestled in the heart of Point Loma, this 1930s residence blends modern architectural lines with timeless character—an ideal canvas for a distinctive landscape transformation. Situated on a prominent corner lot, the property offered the perfect opportunity to create a drought tolerant landscape that’s both eye-catching and true to its historical roots.

The focus of the design was the front yard, where bold Art Deco tilework anchors the entry experience. These tiles guide visitors from the front gate to the home’s entrance, seamlessly connecting with oversized pilasters adorned by classic period pottery. The planting palette emphasizes water-wise selections without sacrificing Mediterranean charm – using ground cover materials that include polished black beach pebbles, grey gravel as an accent and decomposed granite featuring fruitless olive trees for structure and succulents for vibrant colour and texture.

This project is a true marriage of architectural heritage and thoughtful landscape design, honoring the past while embracing modern sustainability.
